The Styles I Always Point New Customers Toward
This used to be a generic top-sellers list naming brands almost at random. I'd rather tell you honestly which styles I actually point people toward, and why, based on what I've watched hold up over years of doing this.
Louis Vuitton's monogram canvas pieces, the Speedy above all, are usually my first recommendation for someone building their very first designer piece. I've written before about why, the construction holds up, the design hasn't meaningfully changed in decades, and the resale value reflects that consistency. It's not the flashiest option, but it's the one I trust most for someone just starting out.
Chanel's Boy bag and classic flap styles come up constantly too, especially for people drawn to that quieter, one-logo aesthetic I've talked about before. They're a bigger investment than a Louis Vuitton starter piece, but the resale demand is genuinely strong, and the craftsmanship is exactly the kind of thing that ages well rather than just wearing out.
Gucci's GG Marmont family is where I point people who want something a little more directional without betting on a single trend cycle. I've written about this specifically, Gucci's had real hype waves that cooled off hard, but the Marmont line has proven more durable than most of the brand's more maximalist pieces.
Coach is the one I think gets underestimated the most, particularly the vintage signature canvas styles. It's more accessible than the others on this list, and that accessibility sometimes gets mistaken for lower quality, but the loyal resale following for the right Coach pieces is real, and it's a smart place to start if your budget is tighter.
What ties all of these together isn't the brand name, it's that each one has genuinely proven itself over years, not just a single viral moment. That's always the real filter I'm using, not what's currently everywhere on social media, but what's actually held up when the trend cycle moved on to something else.
If you're trying to figure out where to start, or where to go next, those are the four families I'd point you toward first, for reasons that have nothing to do with hype and everything to do with what actually holds its value.
