Max Mara Sunglasses: Tailoring Discipline Applied to Frames

Max Mara built its reputation on tailoring, precise, considered, quietly luxurious clothing construction, and I think that same discipline shows up clearly once you look closely at the brand's eyewear. I have several Max Mara styles in the shop right now, brand new and unworn, from the Beth1 to the Menton family in a few different colorways, and they're a good study in how a tailoring-first house approaches a completely different product.

Max Mara was founded in Reggio Emilia, Italy in 1951, and built its name on ready-to-wear tailoring that made genuinely well-constructed clothing more accessible without sacrificing real quality, a philosophy that Italian fashion history often credits with helping shape ready-to-wear as we know it today. That same instinct, real construction quality without unnecessary ornamentation, is exactly what I look for when I check a Max Mara frame.

Acetate finish and color depth matter here the same way I've discussed with Chopard, a shiny black gradient smoke or a deep gold smoke colorway should show genuine, even depth rather than a flat, single-tone look. Hinge precision is worth checking closely too, they should open and close with real resistance, not loosely.

What I think is genuinely interesting about Max Mara specifically is the naming convention across styles, Beth, Miller, Menton, each named rather than just numbered, which is a small detail that reflects the same considered, personal approach the brand brings to its clothing design more broadly.

If you appreciate the idea of eyewear built with genuine tailoring-house discipline, real attention to finish and construction without needing to shout about it, Max Mara is exactly the kind of brand worth knowing in this category.
